Arizona sucks ass.

Sooooo... Monday we got underway about 8:30. Bye bye rowena ave! We drove along just fine, stopped in Upland at Chick Fil A for breakfast... yum. Then on to the 15, and finally, yay, the 40! Smooth sailing from now on, right? Wrong!

About 2:15pm, the expected unexpected happened. My car decided to freak out. Of course. We were driving along, and suddenly we felt us drive over something, and there was smoke and dust behind us. I didn't see anything in the road, so I figured it was a blow out or something. It had to be right? After all, I just had $2000 worth of work done on my car! Pulled over. Tires were fine. Saw nothing around in the road... nothing under the car.... okaaaaaay. Let's keep going. That was weird. Then the battery light came on. Oh great. We were in the middle of Arizona... somewhere. I decided to see if I could make it to the next exit. Luckily, it was only a few miles away, and we made it. It was a little cute town called Seligman. There was even a car shop right there. So we pulled in, and got a mechanic to take a look. He said it was the "air pump". ok.... is that easy to fix? Maybe, maybe not. But we don't have the stuff. You need to go to Flagstaff, 75 miles away (we were thinking of stopping there the first night anyway...) So the man's wife in the shop called AAA for us. Which I had recently joined, by the way. Her father showed up in a tow truck a few minutes later. Turns out the whole area is owned and run by their family. And they were the nicest and sweetest. Lucky lucky lucky us. So we drove with real live cowboy Bill Pope to Flagstaff. He told us all kinds of stories. Stories of towing, hunting, and cattle wrangling. Wow.

We arrived at the Coconino garage in Flagstaff. The guys there looked at the car, and said, uh, your air compressor is broken. It must have mostly fallen out of your car. !!!!! So you'll need a new compressor, dryer, and belt... and later it turns out there was so much debris spread in the system that we need a new condenser too... all totals $1250. So we'll be stuck in Flagstaff for 2 days.

When you get lemons, make lemonade, right? So, we rented a car and went to the Grand Canyon all day Tuesday, which neither of us had done. It was as cool as it's supposed to be. We saw the South Rim of course. Amazing.

Alright, so that didn't turn out so bad....

The next morning, we finally got the car and got out of Flagstaff at about 10:30 am. We drove for a while, and surprise surprise, I get pulled by a cop for speeding. I've never gotten a speeding ticket. He gave me a warning. Another bullet dodged. But still not fun. So needless to say, I have not been speeding too much since...

But we made it out of Arizona alive.

More to come.
